About the treatment

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate healing in damaged soft tissue. It works by increasing blood flow to the treated area, breaking down calcifications, and triggering the body's own repair mechanisms in tissue that has become chronic and resistant to other treatments.

It is particularly effective for conditions that have not responded to conventional physiotherapy, massage, or rest. Most patients see significant improvement within three to five sessions. Sessions are 20–30 minutes, and the treatment can produce a brief intense sensation at the point of application — which most patients find entirely manageable.

Shockwave is not suitable for everyone. Abul will confirm at your first appointment that it is appropriate for your condition before treatment begins.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

I've had heel pain for months and nothing has helped. Could shockwave work for me?
Plantar fasciitis and chronic heel pain are among the most common conditions treated with shockwave therapy. If your heel pain has persisted for more than three months despite rest, stretching, orthotics, or physiotherapy, you're likely a good candidate. Call us on 01760 724704 to discuss your situation, or book directly with Abul for an assessment.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients see significant improvement within three to five sessions, typically spaced a week apart. Abul will give you a realistic picture at your first appointment based on your specific condition and how long it has been present.
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
The treatment produces a brief, intense sensation at the point of application during the session — most patients describe it as manageable and find it reduces with subsequent sessions. There may be some mild soreness for a day or two afterwards, which is a normal part of the healing process.
Is shockwave therapy safe?
Yes, when applied by a qualified practitioner to a suitable patient. Abul will conduct a full assessment at your first appointment to confirm shockwave is appropriate for your condition. There are some contraindications — including pregnancy, certain blood disorders, and treatment over areas with bone growth plates in children — which Abul will screen for before treatment.
What's the difference between shockwave therapy and physiotherapy?
Standard physiotherapy uses exercise, manual therapy, and rehabilitation to manage pain and restore function. Shockwave therapy is a specialist treatment that uses acoustic energy to stimulate healing in chronically damaged tissue — it is typically used when conventional physiotherapy has not achieved sufficient improvement. The two treatments often work well together, and Abul may combine them as part of your plan.
How much does shockwave therapy cost in Swaffham?
Your first session with Abul at The Green Parrot Clinic is £65 and includes a full assessment. Subsequent sessions are also £65. A typical course of three to five sessions costs between £195 and £325 in total. There are no hidden charges.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with Abul online or by calling 01760 724704. If you've already been seen by your GP or another specialist, it can be helpful to bring any relevant notes or scan results to your first appointment.
